Mommies Blog... One month

So it's been exactly One month & 2 days since Liam came into this world & blessed us with so much. I smile because I am in aw at how much he has progressed & all the amazing things he does, but deep down I can't help but cry. It's been so hard not being able to hold him every second, to comfort & help him when he's not feeling good. Most of Our posts have been about how he's doing good and the progress he is making, but I haven't really had the chance to explain how I'm feeling & all of my fears. Why do I feel so angry, so hurt & so confused. Liam, I want the best for you, I want to know how you are doing every second of everyday. It's so hard not having you here with us, to go on everyday like its normal kills me.

I'm blessed to have everyone of you In my life, to be there with advice & guidance. And Im more than Thankful for my amazing & wonderful husband I know it's not easy for you either but I know you put on a brave face for me.

On a happier Note Liam is doing wonderful 2pounds 11ozs now. He had his Hepatitis B shot on the 15th. Still on antibiotics for a yeast infection (hopefully clears up soon). I haven't been able to hold him recently. Im holding off on that for a little, hoping he'll get rid of the sickness to it will be easier for him to breathe off of the ventilator. He's now eating 13cc every 2 hours. They say once he gets up to 1300 grams (3pounds) He'll go up to every 3 hours. As for everything else he's doing wonderful ... He has my little stubborn attitude .. hehe. Thank you everyone for everything you have done for us & little Liam!

Day 25; Leaky tube!

Since we haven't updated the blog in a few days, we figured we will just combine the last few days all in this single post. Sorry for the slack, we have just been very very busy and have not had time to update it. Anyways....little Liam is currently at 2 lbs, 7 ozs. He has been put on antibiotics over the past few days due to suspicions (sp?) of a Urinary Tract Infection. The urine culture is going to the lab tonight and we will have the results within the next 24-48 hours. His lipids (fats) and TPN have been lowered due to the increased amount of feeds he has been getting. He no longer requires the IV fluids as frequently as he used to. He is, however, getting Lasiks, to help drain any excess fluid that may be dormant in his lungs. They don't think there is any in there, but they are treating it just incase. The ventilator is still in his lungs, and he has been experiencing a "leak", or a detection that the tube is not quite the right size for his little throat, but the doctors do not want to chance putting a bigger tube in due to the fact that the damage to the vocal chords from the bigger tube is a greater risk than the leak itself. So for now he has been requiring anywhere from 40-60% O2 levels. Keep praying that little man will be able to overcome the ventilator and breath on his own, simply because it will be the best solution for him altogether. In general, Liam is still progressing daily and still has his stubborn little attitude, which we love about him :). Thank you all for checking this blog, and again we apologize for not updating for a few days. We appreciate the hopes and prayers! Update again ASAP!

Day 18; Still going up!

So not much has changed in the last 24 hours with little Liam, however he has yet again increased in weight. The little guy is up to 2 lbs, 8 ozs. It amazes us how quickly he is taking to the breast milk. The doctors have him on 6 mL of feeds every other two hours. Other than that though, it was a very stable and continuous growth day for our little miracle. Thank you all again for checking up on these posts! We will update again tomorrow, hopefully. Talk to you all very soon!

Day 17; Skinny Dip or Chunky Dunk?

Liam Anthony now weighs a massive 2 lbs, 7 ozs. OH how our little boy is growing, already! In just 1 day, he gained 2 whole ounces. We cannot decide whether he goes skinny dipping or chunky dunking when the nurses give him his baths. You guys can be the ones to decide, so just leave your comments and let us know what you think! Dad got to hold little man for the first time, and boy was he nervous or what! Who would have thought something or someone so little like Liam could scare the pants off of dad? He was sweating bullets the entire time from being so nervous, but they both did really really well! His feeds were increased to 3 mL/hour now, slowly coming up. We are certain that he will be eating a lot more in no time! Liam is no longer taking any antibiotics or medications for any reason at all. We are praying and hope everyone else will pray that his lungs will become stronger in the upcoming days and weeks so he can potentially come off of the ventilator for good. Day by day we can tell his personality grows along with him, becoming more of a character as the minutes tick by. As for now, little man is doing well and stable, so we thank you all for viewing and hope to update again ASAP! Thank you all!

Day 16; Too sexy for my shirt!

So to bring in the new year, 2011 (WAHOO!), little Liam is now able to wear clothing. He is no longer in his humidified isolette, so the nurses keep him in an isolette that doesnt require him to have any extra moisture in his air. This allows him to wear clothing that is not too baggy, yet not too tight either. Currently he is wearing a grey onesie, with no socks and no hat. He also upgraded from his extra small preemie diapers, to a regular preemie diaper now. While it is a little loose on him, the extra smalls were becoming too tight for his little belly. This way he has room to freely go about doing his business and not worry about getting a little infection. His weight gain continues to gradually increase. Little guy is up to a whopping 1,043 grams now (or 2 lbs, 5 ozs)! The doctors have him on 2 mL/hour of feeds yet again, hoping to increase back up to 4 mL/hour very soon. Dad is still waiting his turn to get to hold the little guy for the first time, but hopefully it will be within the next few days, if not tomorrow. We apologize again for the lull in posts, but we really do try to post as often and frequently as possible. Thanks again for checking these updates, we hope to have another one up as soon as we have more news. Thank you!

Day 14; 2 Weeks Today!

Sorry for the last two days having nothing but blank space for updates, it has just been a very busy few days. As for today's update, little man has officially hit and gone above his birth weight. He weighed in at a whopping 955 grams, or 2 lbs. and 2 ozs. That puts him 1 oz heavier than when he was born 2 weeks ago. The results from his most recent echogram came back this evening and the PDA in his heart has significantly shrunk, becoming almost non-existant altogether. The PDA is so small that the little guy no longer needs the medicine to help with it. The doctors expect him to return to his normal feeds tomorrow morning sometime, starting back up with 4 mL/hr, every 3 hours. He moves to a new bed tonight sometime in the middle of the night, where he no longer needs the humidity. The new isolette will allow him to wear the NICU clothing that Auntie Victoria and Uncle Jason bought him as a gift! Pictures will follow immediately after he gets to show off his new fashion statement. Thank you again for checking the blog! We will be updating again ASAP!

Day 11; Mommy Holds little man!!

Where to begin...to start the day off, little guy was back to his normal routine after a very stressful night of trying to come off the ventilator. Back down to 21% O2 and still using the ventilator, everything was farely normal again. They decided to up his feeds to 3 mL/hr, yet again. This evening, however, we discovered he had gained a whopping 65 grams back! That brings his total weight back up to 905 grams total, or exactly 2 lbs! The nurse on duty also informed mom that she was able to now hold him for a period of 1 hour per day as long as he remained stable throughout the duration of the day. So needless to say, mom has not stopped grinning from ear to ear since she got to hold her precious son in her arms for the first time tonight :). It was nothing short of an amazing sight to see her with the little guy all bundled up in her arms. So all-in-all, a very very productive and different outcome of the day than yesterday, so now mom and dad can go to sleep with nothing but a giant smile on their faces :). Liam you truly are an Amazing gift, this year you have brought us more happiness than we have ever imagined!
